Initiative:

Vagus was hired to handle all grand opening aspects of the first Hyatt Place in Normal, Illinois. The timing of the opening coincided with the 150th anniversary of Bloomington-Normal. As part of the City of Normal’s circus themed anniversary festivities, The Flying Wallendas were slated to be in Normal to perform a death-defying stunt at the Sky Walk at Fountain Square Mall. Vagus took advantage of the timing and successfully executed a grand opening like no other.

Results:

  • Vagus concepted, negotiated and secured The Flying Wallendas to perform a highly creative and unique “Tight Rope Ribbon Cutting” in the lobby of the Hyatt Place the day before the city’s 150th anniversary event in addition to a “meet & greet” with the troupe the following day. Over $25,000 value/no cost to client.
  • Numerous local stories ran announcing the hotel opening including a cover story in the local Pantagraph featuring the ribbon cutting.
  • Several national trade publications also covered the opening including Meeting Today, Commercial Property Executive, and Hotel Online. Impressions total over 400,000 with an estimated publicity value of $15,000.
